Welcome to White Class!
Our class is for secondary aged pupils whose barriers for learning include high levels of communication need, therapy needs and intensive support for self help and interaction skills. We currently have a specialist team of 5 supporting adults providing highly individualised teaching for 10 pupils throughout the school day.
We have lots of fun learning all about our different topics as we follow the school’s thematic approach. Our aim in White Class is to support pupil’s communication, independence and regulation of behaviour, whilst making activities functional as we enjoy learning every day skills. For example, loading the washing machine with our wet swimming clothes / dirty art aprons, stacking and unstacking the dishwasher. We take part in weekly trip to the local supermarket to buy our snacks and cooking ingredients.
Our cooking lessons involve making our own simple snacks such as sandwiches, making pizzas or scrambled egg on toast. We enjoy outdoor learning sessions including gardening skills, bug explorations and art activities in the outside environment. . Many of our skills are learnt through sensory exploration, messy art and Attention Autism sessions. We also enjoy going out into the local community on walks in the woods, city, along the coast, visiting parks and libraries.

We have created a 'Home Learning Support Sheet' for anyone in class who needs to access learning away from school at this time. On the sheet you will find activity ideas and links covering each of the school curriculum areas. In the event of a period of self-isolation of class closure then your class teacher will be in touch to provide additional support an resources.
