Upcoming Class Events: Welcome to Red Class!
Red Class is for primary aged children whose barriers to learning are linked to their ability to focus, attend and be motivated to engage in learning activities. There are 10 children in Red Class, supported by 4 adults.
In Red Class there is a focus in generalising skills and embedding them in functional situations before developing increased abstract learning. Some of the skills we work on include: being able to communicate with others, wait in different situations, join in as part of a group, focus on the adult"In Red Class there is a focus in generalising skills and embedding them in functional situations before developing increased abstract learning" agenda, and being safe in school and in the community. We also work on developing the children’s independence skills, which includes taking care of their own personal care needs, being able to do familiar tasks independently, and helping out with class jobs.
At the same time, the children will be engaged in daily literacy and numeracy lessons, to develop the core skills of reading, writing and number work. There is an emphasis on developing the pencil control "There is an emphasis on developing the pencil control needed to form letters and numbers correctly and fluently, where possible"needed to form letters and numbers correctly and fluently, where possible. Each afternoon we have a reading session so that children develop a love of books and have regular practice at using their sight vocabulary or phonic skills to read with increasing confidence.
The school’s thematic curriculum allows us to engage in a broad range of topics, and we try to learn about them in a fun and engaging way. We also link to our topic where possible on our weekly trips into the community.

Below you will find our Class Learning Overview for our recent 'To Infinity and Beyond' topic:
We have created a 'Home Learning Support Sheet' for anyone in class who needs to access learning away from school at this time. On the sheet you will find activity ideas and links covering each of the school curriculum areas. In the event of any class closure or need for your child to self isolate then your class teach, Alan, will be in touch directly to provide further support and resources.
