Upcoming Class Events:
Hello and welcome to the Orange Class page of our website!
Orange class is a secondary phase class for pupils whose primary need is to develop their ability to focus and engage more independently with their learning activities. We aim to develop and then generalise existing skills whilst helping to embed core functional skills.
This year we have a class of 12 students, who are usually supported by 4 adults. We enjoy exploring the schools half termly thematic curriculum topics whilst placing great emphasis on developing each students life and independence skills. We work towards outcomes identified through our 'Harford Steps' curriculum and termly 'personalised learning goals' (PLGs) which provide a greatly individualised approach to meet areas for development and break down barriers to learning.make mistakes and learn from them in a safe ad supportive environment. We learn new concepts through lots of concrete exploration and much of our learning take place away from the table top, in the wider school and out in the local community. The students run their own daily class snack cafe to help develop both money and work based skills, and take ownership of both their class and the school as a whole, completing weekly jobs, working as a team to help their friends and facilitate the smooth running of the classroom. We also enjoy a wide variety of community visits on at least a weekly basis, including topic related locations and trips to the library to select reading and topic books. However, everyone's favourite by far is our supermarket shopping trips and café treats to finish, which provide many opportunities to covertly develop our understanding use / of money and our communication based skills!
Please take a look at the gallery below to see what we have been up to recently:
Our Class Learning Overview for our 'To Infinity and Beyond' topic below, gives a brief description of the areas we will be covering and contains ideas for you to try at home too. Please do share any pictures of home based activities with the class via the usual channels.
We have created a 'Home Learning Support Sheet' for anyone in class who needs to access learning away from school at this time. On the sheet you will find activity ideas and links covering each of the school curriculum areas. In the instance of any whole class or individual need for remote learning your class teacher will be in touch to provide further support and resources.
