Upcoming Class Events:
Hello and welcome to Green Class!
Green Class is the Primary Autistic Resource Base for Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils. We provide a high level of support, routine and structure to the day, focusing on the individual needs of our pupils so they can meet their 'Personalised Learning Goals' and develop meaningful and functional communication and problem-solving skills.
A key focus in Green Class is catering for each child’s ‘Sensory Diet’. This means we complete various activities throughout the day which are tailored towards each individual child’s sensory needs in
order to promote emotional regulation and the learning of new skills. Some alerting exercises include a morning run or walk, bouncing on the therapy ball or trampette. Our organising activities include our morning dance session, copying fine and gross motor actions and completing jobs. Calming activities can include sitting on a rocking chair, using a weighted blanket and lying in a hammock or spending time on a beanbag. Fiddle/fidget toys are also used by many of our pupils to help them focus, attend and calm. These ‘tools’ become part of your child’s ‘tool box’ and in Green Class we begin to teach our pupils how to recognise their own emotional state and how to communicate their need for ‘tools’ to self-regulate.
We make learning practical and engaging. Our exciting thematic curriculum provides a rich and diverse platform for developing new skills. Pupils enjoy our interactive multi-sensory stories, sensory creative art sessions and Attention Autism sessions. We visit our school therapy room and soft play for sensory regulation an Intensive Interaction. We have also had the opportunity to take part in Music Therapy sessions and caring for our school therapy dog, Milo. We work on independence through regular practice in self-help skills such as getting changed, brushing teeth as well as desensitisation to tasks such as having nails trimmed, having haircuts, using a dentist mirror and an oral syringe. We love to go out on trips into the local environment and use different community facilities. We have taken part in trampolining, 'boxercise' and horse riding sessions and we regularly swim in an offsite swimming pool. We access shops, cafes, parks and local walks as well as exciting topic related outings and trips to celebrate special occasions.
We are a busy and active class who work hard, build strong bonds and celebrate each and every achievement… and we have a lot of fun along the way!
